Branch Field at University Stadium
Home of the New Mexico Lobos, University Stadium opened its gates Sept. 17, 1960, when UNM hosted the National University of Mexico. The Lobos thumped their foreign visitors, 77-6, UNM's biggest margin of victory at University Stadium.
Prior to 1960, UNM played its home games at Zimmerman Field (1938-59) and University Field (1892-1937), where Ortega Hall, the Humanities building and Woodward Hall presently stand.

Lobo football gameday at University Stadium has grown into a unique, special experience. Lobos fans have filled University Stadium in record numbers over the past decade, giving New Mexico one of the best home field advantages in the Mountain West Conference.
Fans start the party early at the University Stadium tailgate lots when nearly 40,000 people from all over The Land of Enchantment and beyond converge for food, drinks, live music, games, and more at one of college football's best tailgating environments
Only at University Stadium will you find the college football version of the legendary Cleveland Browns "Dawg Pound" and Oakland Raiders "Black Hole" sections - The Red Menace, which has occupied the north end zone since 2001. Following every Lobo victory fans from all sections make sure they get to the north end zone to take part in the famous "Lobo Leap." Inspired by the Green Bay Packers' "Lambeau Leap," Lobo players sprint toward the north end zone and vault into the waiting arms of Lobo Nation, kicking off a wild celebration in the stands.
New Mexico's fast-growing student section, dubbed the Howl Raisers, gets more popular every year and has made a big impact on the gameday atmosphere at University Stadium. With all UNM football games free for students, these young, energetic fans come early to tailgate then pack the eastern stands to cheer on their classmates, while making sure the visiting team is always aware of their presence.
