Helpful Tips & Tricks to Help Improve your Curb Appeal

If you’re planning on placing your home on the market, or already have your home listed, curb appeal is something that’s going to be extremely important, especially with the arrival of spring. The outside of your home is first impression a buyer will get of your home, so you have to ensure it’s a good one. If you’re planning on selling your house, it’s important to make sure your curb appeal is the best it can be.

When you begin working on your home you might be a bit overwhelmed by all the decisions, time, work and costs involved with the process of getting your front yard buyer ready. Lots of people think that since most landscaping projects aren’t permanent, it’s not as important as other projects that are on your list, but you should really consider putting it near the top of your to-do list.

Here are easy five things you can do to increase your curb appeal to help your home give the best possible impression.

Remove Old or Dead Plants

Get any dead flowers, leaves or trees out of your yard. Clip dead branches and rake up any leftover winter leaves. As you remove things, fill in any blank areas with bushes, potted plants, flowers or yard art, but try to avoid garden gnomes and pink plastic flamingos.

Maintain the Lawn

Spray or pull any weeds to keep the texture of your lawn even and smooth. And if you mow the lawn yourself, make sure you go over it once a week to keep it looking it’s best.

Prune the Hedges

Make sure your bushes are clipped and not overflowing onto your driveway or walkways. If they grow too fast to maintain properly, you might just want to pull them up. You can always cover blank spots with wood chips, mulch, or gravel.

Add to Your Landscape

Improve your landscape with decorative stone, tile, brick, wood or concrete to add some appeal to the softer elements of your yard like the grasses, plants and flowers. And don’t forget your porch! Add a splash of color with potted plants or flowers.

Put in Some Light

Landscape lighting doesn’t need to cost a fortune. Get some lanterns to border the walkways or find something to hang from one of your trees to give your yard a stylish feel. Lighting not only highlights key areas of your yard, like flower beds and trees, it also adds a little extra security.

If you’re still lost as to where you should start, visit your local hardware store with a sketch or picture of your home and yard and ask for ideas. Explain that you’re planning on selling your home and that you’re struggling with ideas for your curb appeal, you might get some great free advice.
